Responsibility

Last updated: August 2026

Our approach

SoleMove does not currently hold a formal environmental or social certification, and we don't have a certified policy in place. What follows are the principles we hold ourselves to today, based on general good practice for a small, remote-first software company. We see formal certification as a future goal as the company grows, not a claim we're making now.

We work with higher education institutions across Europe, and we think it matters that a platform built for that community is transparent about how it operates.

Environmental responsibility

SoleMove is a remote-first company. We don't maintain a large physical office footprint, and most of our collaboration happens digitally rather than through routine travel. In practice, this keeps our direct environmental footprint small compared to a traditional office-based organization.

  • Remote-first team structure, reducing commuting and office energy use
  • Cloud-hosted infrastructure rather than maintaining our own servers or data centers
  • In-person travel (e.g. for events and partner visits) kept to what's genuinely necessary
  • Digital-first documentation and workflows in place of print

Data & digital responsibility

As a platform handling student and staff mobility records, we treat data protection as a responsibility issue, not just a compliance checkbox. Our full data handling practices are set out in our Privacy Policy. In summary, we aim to:

  • Collect and retain only the data we need to provide the service
  • Process data in line with GDPR and applicable Finnish data protection law
  • Apply appropriate technical and organizational security measures, including encryption and access controls
  • Never sell personal data to third parties

Social & accessibility

SoleMove exists to make student and staff mobility easier to administer, which we see as a contribution to more accessible international education. We aim to build a product that works well for the people who rely on it day to day.

  • Designing our platform to be usable by mobility staff with varying levels of technical experience
  • Supporting multiple languages across our website and communications
  • Following accessibility best practices in how we build and test our interfaces, with the aim of improving this over time
  • Listening to feedback from the institutions and staff who use SoleMove

Governance & ethics

As a small company, our governance is straightforward, and we intend to keep it honest and easy to scrutinize.

  • Clear, direct communication with customers about what our platform does and doesn't do
  • Choosing vendors and infrastructure providers with their own credible security and reliability practices
  • Avoiding misleading claims about our environmental or social impact — if we haven't verified it, we won't claim it

Looking ahead

These commitments will evolve as SoleMove grows. As we scale, we expect to formalize this into a documented policy and to evaluate relevant third-party certifications. We'll update this page as that happens.
